Communications Team Member

About the Position:

CODEPINK is seeking a communications team member to expand our reach, shape our work into stories that speak to the heart of the matter, peace not war. Support our campaigns with messaging, general website management and membership communications.

CODEPINK is a women-led grassroots organization working to end U.S. wars and militarism, support peace and human rights initiatives, and redirect our tax dollars into healthcare, education, good jobs and other life-affirming programs. We actively oppose U.S. militarism, torture, the detention center at Guantanamo, weaponized and spy drones, the prosecution of whistleblowers, U.S. support for the Israeli occupation of Palestine and repressive regimes. Rooted in a network of local organizers, online supporters and grassroots donors, our tactics range from pressuring elected officials to street theatre, civil resistance, and directly challenging powerful decision-makers in government and corporations.

We are a team and a culture committed to growing a local peace economy and a community of support.

The ideal candidate will be able produce compelling, high quality, detail-intensive work often on tight deadlines. Exceptionally strong writing skills and an ability to pinpoint effective messages are critical. Experience or existing relationships with related media projects and a track record of taking projects to successful completion are also highly desired.

Must be deeply committed to peace and justice and protecting human rights, adaptable to rapidly shifting programmatic developments, and eager to seize media opportunities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Draft alerts, press releases, newsletters, op-eds, and blog posts
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to develop our organizational narrative, sharing stories that inform and inspire
  • Handle rapid response communication, developing messages, and writing op-eds, letters to the editor, talking points and other media materials.
  • Train and coach staff, volunteers and constituents for media availabilities; act as media liaison during media events.
  • Other communications, political, and management tasks as they arise
  • Keep information on the website up to date and interactive
  • Engage current membership in campaigns

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working within a racial justice and racial equity framework.
  • At least 2 years online communications work experience.
  • Familiarity with media database technology, ideally NationBuilder.
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities effectively in a heavy workload and coordinate complex projects.
  • Prefer based in Washington DC but can work remotely
  • Flexible, collaborative team player, who thrives on building partnerships and networks
  • Commitment to social justice
  • Excellent writing, proofreading, communications, and political skills
  • Graphic design experience a plus.

We encourage applications from women, people of color, LGBTQ people, disabled people and other members of underrepresented groups.

We are seeking candidates who have a commitment to engage in this ongoing process and work with us to create a just and inclusive work environment and world.
